My first big conference

by Mateja Pršlja

I got a great opportunity to be a participant at the MCQST-Technion Symposium on Quantum Science and Technology, which took place at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) in Munich.

The symposium was three days long with a very rich program, that included scientific talks, lab tours, a poster session and a panel discussion on platforms for quantum computing.

On the first day, we had a chance to visit a few different labs in three high-level institutes, namely Walther-Meißner Institute, Walter Schottky Institute, and MPQ. Then, followed the poster session with more than 50 scientists, which were able to share their latest work with all interested participants.

A second day was filled with lectures given by top international researchers working in various areas of quantum science and technology. A starting first two talks were on the topic of Quantum Metrology and the second two on Quantum Information Theory. After a very delicious German lunch, we continued with lectures about Quantum Computing and Quantum Communication.

The last day of a symposium was only half-day long but still filled with very interesting and different topics regarding Quantum Simulations, Quantum Matter and Semiconductor Quantum Optics.

I can say, that my impressions of this conference are very positive and I’m looking forward to new events like that. I think, that the symposium was very instructive and it gave me a lot of new information, which I will explore a bit more on my own.
