Amber (ESR4) realized her 1st secondment from 27/03/17 to 05/05/17. She left Galway in Ireland to Wageningen in the Netherlands.
Mid-term meeting of the project
The mid-term meeting was held in Brussels on Thursday 23rd of February 2017. All the beneficiaries, the partner organisation and the ESRs were present and met the Project Officer of the REA, Ms Stanka MITEVA and the external expert, Ms Federica ROSSI.
The meeting started with the coordinator’s report including the scientific, training, networking and management parts of the project. Then, the ESRs’ presented a slideshow of their project explaining their first results and methodology, their training activities within and outside the network and their Personal Career Development Plan.

Workshop and annual meeting 10-14 October 2016
Workshop on statistics and 1st annual meeting

From 10-12 October 2016, the ESRs went to Jouy-en-Josas (France) for the 1st scientific workshop of the project organized by the INRA unit MaIAGE. This workshop continued the training they had in July with the Summer School. They learnt about R langauge with gene expression analysis of RNA-seq.
After the workshop, we all met near Paris for the annual meeting of List_MAPS. After one year since the project started, it was an opportunity to see the progress of the project, the first results and discuss the next steps.
Researchers Night 30 September 2016
4 ESRs participated to the event in Dijon and Paris

For the 2016 edition of the Researchers Night, 4 ESRs of List_MAPS participated to the event in Dijon and in Paris. They explained their project to different people by performing a speed-searching. In Dijon, Angela and Catarina talked three times during 8 minutes to a group of 4 people about their project and they tried to be understandable by a no-scientific public. Tiago was in Dijon too and was interviewed by the Radio of the University of Burgundy « Radio Campus » and explained his project and the overall action of List_MAPS.
Secondment ESR 2 Vanessa
Vanessa (ESR2) was the 1st ESR to do a secondment. She left Cork in Ireland to Frankfurt in Germany, from 7th to 27th of July 2016. This is how she experienced this opportunity:

The 1st Summer school of List_MAPS was organized in Frankfurt by GenXPro from the 4th to the 6th of July 2016. During 3 days, the ESRs attended presentations and workshops about the Next Generation Sequencing platforms, transcriptomes, QPCR data analyses, eucaryotes and procaryotes transcriptomics.

Meeting pupils in Dijon (France)

Communication to the public is an important part of List_MAPS. All ESRs participate in outreach events to develop their skills in communication to a non-specialist public. For their first outreach workshop the ESRs have benefit to the expertise of the department « Experimentarium » of the University of Burgundy. This department is specialized to promote science to the general public. This first outreach workshop took place in Dijon on wednesday 14th and thursday 15th of October 2015. On wednesday afternoon the ESRs received a training by Lionel Maillot, head of the Experimentarium, and his team. It was an opportunity for ESRs to acquire specific skills and knowhow to explain their research to non-specialist public. On Thursday they went to the international school « lycée Charles de Gaulle » to meet pupils. Each ESR met several groups of five pupils during a limited time length of 10 minutes to explain their research project.
