My experience as a Marie Curie fellow

by Muhammad Ahmed

I am Muhammad Ahmed, a PhD student at Teem Photonics company in collaboration with the Laboratory of Light, nano-materials and nanotechnologies (L2n) of University of Technology of Troyes (UTT). Through my PhD I had the chance to be closely in contact with experts (i.e. R&D engineers and technicians) in the industrial field, I learned how to work under stress and how to be flexible when you face a delay in your experimental work because the industrial environment is totally different from research centres or universities. My PhD allowed me to gain knowledge and enhance my soft and technical skills. Moreover, these collaborations have broadened my horizon to think about the marketing issues and careful budget allocation to purchase the needed equipment for the project completion. Further, I was able to help my group with ideas that we will gain the benefit from it soon.
I attended two conferences in Grenoble Alpes university, featuring well-known speakers and researchers in the field of quantum technology applications. The conference title was “European Quantum Technologies Conference in Grenoble ” . I had poster presentation that summarize my work there. Participating in this conference helped me to enhance my presentation skills, to go deep knowledge in our research fields, and to know the news about other research teams in our field, thus having another point of view to the subject being tackled. Moreover, I participated three LIMQUET schools in three different countries which gave me the opportunity to know the other ESRs, gain knowledge about different background and cultures for the ESRs and discuss about our research and what we did during our 1 st year in PhD.
